Here are our top 5 tips you need to know before entering University, covering all things from campus life to assessment organisation!

1. Theres loads of free food around campus

The University offers a lot of free, delicious meals for students and staffs! From BBQ parties near the Quad, to free donuts and cupcakes in the International Student Lounge (ISL). So, make sure you are always on the lookout for events and festivities around campus such as the ‘R U OK Day’ and ‘Pop Fest’ where you can get heaps of good food 😊

2. First year is as good as it gets

In your first year, you might find yourself thinking “wow this isn’t as hard as I thought it would be”, and you’re right. Finishing each year of your university degree is kind of like finishing a packet of Tim Tams in one sitting. You enjoy the first one, lose track of the ones in the middle, and by the end of it you’re just trying not to think about what this will cost you and whether it was all worth it.

3. Your unit of study outline is gospel

Unlike high school, your university tutors probably wont give you a load of information about your assessments – so, your Unit of Study Outline (OUS) will save you, as it contains all the information you need to know including due dates, requirements, and criteria!

4. Time management is super important

Time management is key! Knowing what assignments are due and allowing yourself at least 1-2 weeks in advance to get it started will really help you make a schedule – GET ORGANISED!!

5. Get involved around campus to make friends

Finding friends can be difficult at uni. But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible! Join one or more societies offered here at USYD.
Participating and contributing to your chosen society can enrich your uni social life and forge friendships outside your degree.
