Only a 3 hour walk from the Mt Cook village, the hooker valley walk is one of the most low effort – high reward walks you can do. With a flat board walk for most of the way, it is accessible for most people, and not to much of an effort for those new to bush walking. The path travels through the hooker valley, all the way to the base of Mt Cook at Lake Aoraki, with things to gaze at in awe the entire way.

If you are brave enough, when you arrive at Lake Aoraki, you can take a quick dip in the glacial water for some improvised post-walk cryotherapy (it is not recommended for all people or for extended amounts of time at a risk of hypothermia – perform at your own risk).

At your arrival back at Mt Cook Village, there are a variety of places to eat, with gorgeous restaurants and mountain view cafes. What more could you want?
