Introduction
In Neil Postman’s 1998 talk, “5 Things We Need to Know About Technological Innovation,” the first thing he said was that technology is a double-edged sword, and we will always pay a price for it (Postman,1998). The greater the technology, the greater the cost. In a short period of more than 40 years, the Internet has experienced a leap of development. Important breakthroughs are coming one after another, such as E-mail, Internet Explorer, instant messaging software, and mobile Internet technology. We have to focus on some fundamental inventions first. It’s the work of what’s often called the “fathers of the Internet” – ARPA Net, TCP/IP and the World Wide Web. Without these technologies, the Internet would never have evolved into what it is today.
Since 1995, the Internet has gradually increased its influence on economic development. What is clear is that web1.0 monetized based on one thing in common: huge click traffic. Moreover, if Web 1.0 was about a few people creating content for a larger audience, Web 2.0 is about many people creating more content for a growing audience. Web2.0 transforms the Internet as a platform. Web 1.0 focused on reading, while Web 2.0 focused on participation and contribution.
The rapid development of the Internet has undoubtedly brought great contributions to all fields of society. However, in the whole Internet ecology, this iterative development also causes the lack of Internet diversity. The unitary diversity of the Internet also affects cultural, medical, economic and other aspects.
The impact of Lack of diversity on culture
The Internet has undoubtedly greatly promoted the spread of traditional culture. However, it is a double-edged sword. This is because it promotes not only traditional culture, but also a lot of fast -food culture. At the same time, the explosion of information on the Internet has increased, making it difficult to choose more complex information to read, and then reading content that is easy and comfortable to read.
Although the network era has expanded the dissemination channels of literary works, it is difficult to select and develop them. The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) reports on the literature spread on the Internet: At present, there are problems such as large quantity, low quality, “plateau” and lack of “peak”, serious plagiarism and imitation, and the same content. This can be seen, the network wanted to let you enter the world with more choices, but the reality of the trend is a big fire IP exposed plagiarism; More and more of the market is occupied by three popular literary works; More and more people are disappointed or even lose faith in the literature produced in this era. If most of the literary works spread in this world lack connotation, and because they are easy to be copied, people can only passively continuously lower the standard and pursuit of literature. Moreover, it is clear that given the dependence of The Times on the Internet, even though people are aware of these serious problems and take some formal measures, it is still difficult to find an effective way to solve them completely. Can only endure the Internet age to the development of literary works of the growing disadvantage.
Internet medical development dilemma
Internet medical service is a new type of medical and health service based on hierarchical diagnosis and treatment, which is deeply integrated with traditional medical and health services using the Internet as the carrier and new technology as the means (Mansoor, 2002). Several opportunities to utilize the medical Internet include improving quality of life, improving patient experience, improving optimal therapies for health, and reducing healthcare costs. Compliance rates for chronic diseases are notoriously low, often below 50%. Increase compliance by leveraging existing consumer product form factors to increase peace of mind for parents, patients and caregivers (Evelyn, 2019). The picture shows that the Internet is the number one source of cancer information. However, at the present stage, Internet medical treatment has encountered difficulties in both industrial development and grassroots promotion.
Firstly, the main structure of the single, lack of a clear business model. Take China as an example, the market structure is dominated by public medical institutions, and the state has always taken a cautious attitude towards the status and role of third-party institutions in the Internet medical industry. At present, the Internet medical market is dominated by public medical institutions and supported by third-party institutions. It has not yet formed a sustainable business model.
Second, the service content does not touch the core of medical services, and the service chain does not form an ecological closed loop of “medical + pharmaceutical + medical insurance”. At present, many medical institutions have established a hospital information system, but due to lack of prophase overall planning and information sharing consciousness, most health information system of the construction of the difficult and the residents’ health records, medical insurance payment system and other systems to realize information interconnection, sharing and docking services more obstacles, has had the actual medical big data services still stays in the early stages.
Third, the absence of multiple management, policies and regulations lag behind, the guidance is not clear. At present, there are more than 10 medical and health related administrative departments in China, and there is a serious lack of management in multiple crossings. At present, the integration of Internet + medical and health industry has entered a new stage. Whether it is the “three-doctor linkage” of medical treatment, medicine and medical insurance, or the medical community composed of county hospitals, top-level design is urgently needed to establish a high-level consultation and decision-making mechanism for Internet medical development with consensus reached by multiple departments.
Fourth, it is difficult to popularize advanced technology and slow industrial transformation. There are three reasons: first, the price of new technological medical instruments is relatively high. In the case of the low penetration rate and utilization rate of Internet medical treatment, public hospitals cannot make profits after investing a large cost, which is unsustainable. Second, doctors have limited knowledge of the new technology, doubt its safety and accuracy, and worry about medical errors. Third, system interconnection means data interconnection and sharing, which will damage vested interests and realize income redistribution, resulting in great artificial resistance.
The social problems brought by the single Internet.
The lack of diversity on the Internet creates a problem of social phobia for a large proportion of the population.
The images show levels of social anxiety by country and gender.
The convenience of the Internet continues to change the way people socialize. The original happy to meet, into a phone call, and then evolved to send messages happy New Year. Online social communication is an excellent supplement to face-to-face social communication, which can effectively solve the inconvenience of time, space and form in many cases. However, the Internet has overstepped its role in arranging too many social situations, so that more and more people begin to avoid face-to-face social situations. If you look at the search index for social phobia over the last 10 years, it’s been going up pretty evenly. In 2019, 2020, and 2021, there were several waves of prolonged peak searches.
First of all, the development of the Internet provides people with a better self-presentation, thus reducing their willingness to socialize. Secondly, the Internet also provides more forms of social interaction, and the forms of online social interaction are becoming richer and richer. Accustomed to the rich forms of online social interaction, people will naturally feel dissatisfied and rejected by some limitations in real social interaction.
In conclusion, the Internet and Internet technology have indeed brought many benefits to modern society. However, the lack of diversity also brings some disadvantages. As Heidegger mentioned in The Question Concerning Technology, “The essence of science and technology has nothing to do with it (Cocchiarella, 2019).” In the process of network technology development, there are both advantages and disadvantages. That means taking the good and discarding the bad for ten minutes.
