Introduction
Nowadays, there is an emerging phenomenon that comes to people’s vision, which is problematic information spreading on digital platforms. Problematic information is just as its name implies is about hate, porn, harassment, bullying and violent content, and other information which has problematic content. This kind of information spreading on the internet brings a significantly negative influence on the whole of society. Especially for some teenagers which are under eighteen years old and some people who tend to imitate problematic behavior in the real life, which can be very dangerous to either the internet environment or the whole society. There are essentially three reasons that this type of information diffusing on digital platforms will take a bad effect on the environment people live rely on. The first reason is that violent information spreading on the internet may cause some people with propensities of violence to crimes in the real world. Secondly, content about bullying may lead some immature teenagers to bully their classmates or some children which are weaker or littler than them. Thirdly, porn content spreading on digital platforms can be particularly dangerous for young children, as some pedophiles may imitate online pornography and abuse children, which will have a lifetime of negative effects on the children. As a result of this, the spreading of bad information on digital platforms needs to be held accountable and stopped.
Uploaders and spreaders should be responsible.
The producers of the problematic information should first be responsible for stopping of this content. The producer of the inappropriate information is the source of the bad information and the beginnings of the problems. ‘The Indian Lizard Incident’ is a typical example of bullying, porn, and violent content which widely distributed on digital platforms, and it created a firestorm (Pundir, 2022). A lot of netizens expressed shock, incomprehension, and anger at this incident, and were very sympathetic to the national protection of the lizards suffered. Although the abuser is hateful, the person who made the video and uploaded it to social platforms must also be held accountable, because he has brought a great bad influence on the society. From a psychological point of view, the person who posted the video online showing him bullying the lizard, a protected animal in the country, is malicious. First of all, he or they thought it was a matter of pride to attack the lizard. That in itself is vicious, and then they actually violate a lizard in real life, and they videotape it and post it in a showy way on a digital platform for people to watch. This kind of behavior is very worthy of being spurned. These people must also be held accountable for their actions. From another perspective saying that the spreader of this kind of information should also be responsible for stopping the spreading of this content. There is a saying going by that, no snowflake is innocent in an avalanche. The same idea to the diffusing of violence, porn, bullying, harassment, hate and other problematic content, every person who used to forward the information should be responsible for stopping this behavior. Therefore, only by solving such problems from the source can the generation of information restore the network environment to standard and clean, and it is also necessary to cut off the spread of bad information, which needs everyone has the consciousness to do.
Digital platforms should be responsible.
The digital platform itself should be responsible for the problematic information spreading on it as well. Digital platforms are the most extensive channels for uploaders to post information containing pornography, violence, bullying, and other objectionable content for their sensationalist or ulterior purposes. If the creators and uploaders of bad information are the sources of the problems, the lack of supervision of the digital platforms is the accelerator that makes the problem get huger. In principle, the regulatory authorities of digital platforms have the duty and responsibility to screen the content uploaded by publishers before spreading it on the Internet. But a lot of times there’s always bad information that gets uploaded to digital platforms from some source and spreads like crazy. That’s when the platform needs to come out and solve these problems, not just sit back and do nothing. There is also a worse situation in that some staff of the digital platform is themselves the producers of bad information. They take advantage of their positions to release some bad information to the platform. Of course, this situation is very rare, but the platform should pay attention to it and stop it. What is more, the oversight of the platform’s regulators has caused bad information to spread on digital platforms, which also causes other useful and positive information to be overshadowed by the high exposure of this bad information, so that the really useful information needs to be seen by people It is difficult to export through normal channels, so the effective supervision of the platform is very important. First, the supervision of the platform is in place, which is bound to prevent a large part of the bad information from really entering everyone’s field of vision. Second, the information screening system of digital platforms is perfect, so good information will get the exposure it deserves, and bad information will be blocked. Third, the powerful screening of the platform can widely output truly useful information, which will greatly improve the purity of the network environment.
How to stop?
The wide spread of videos, pictures, or words with pornography, violence, bullying and other bad information on the Internet is self-evident that it will have an indelible negative impact on both the network environment and society, so it is necessary to take some necessary measures to manage the network. How to stop the dissemination of such problematic information is the focus of the next discussion. First of all, it is necessary to punish the publishers of bad information. The punishment may be but is not limited to fines, severe cases, and even criminal detention. Can also spread bad information of the user number processing. Secondly, the government should also take corresponding measures to punish the platform for its lack of supervision. Such as fining platforms, or restricting access to digital platforms, shutting them down, or permanently suspending users. Thirdly, although the publishers of problematic information and the dereliction of duty of the platform supervision department need to be punished accordingly, the disseminators of this bad information also need to be punished to a certain extent, such as being permanently banned and so on. The dissemination of information with bad content on the Internet has a great impact on society. Therefore, it is imperative to effectively supervise the network environment. Taking the above methods may effectively stop the dissemination of information containing violence, pornography, abuse, and other problematic information. In addition, the network environment can be greatly improved and give the network environment a piece of fresh air.
Conclusion
To sum up, it is necessary to effectively improve the purity of the network environment. The reason is the impure environment of the network will bring a bad influence on society. For example, cyber violence is one of them. Research has found that some cyberbullying can combine the anonymity of the attacker in traditional indirect attacks with the targeted attacks on the victim in traditional direct attacks (Smith et al., 2008). This will bring a great negative impact on the victims of cyber violence and society. The creator of bad information is shameful, should be despised by society, and should also be responsible for their bad behavior and be punished accordingly. Then the dereliction of duty of the digital platform supervision department also needs to take the corresponding responsibility. The disseminators of problematic text, pictures, and video content also need to be punished, such as temporary ban, investigation, and so on. Therefore, punishing the publishers of bad information or even criminal treatment, suspending the platform for rectification, and temporarily banning the forwarders of bad information will be relatively more effective ways to deal with it, which may be helpful for the improvement of the network’s ecological environment.
