‘Cyberflashing’, the sending of unwanted nude images to people is a serious issue that has plagued social media.

In recent months, Instagram’s parent company Meta aims to address this issue through the introduction of a new content moderation feature called ‘Nudity Protection’. Utilising innovative technology, the feature is able to securely detect and cover nudity and flags them to users, placing the power in their hands to view potential unsolicited nude photos at their will.

Same content, different rules

Youtube does not tolerate nudity in any form on their platform, while others get and have been getting banned for nudity, recently a youtube by the name of Kevin Leonardo has been posting nude content on the platform because he thinks it is educational.

Twitter

Recently the video “what is a woman” was labelled and flagged by twitter, as it was considered hateful content due to misgendering issues.

Although Elon Musk who was the new owner of the company said that free speech is something the platform takes very seriously. Ella Irwin who was twitter’s head of content moderation was accountable for flagging the post as hateful content and went against twitter’s content moderation guidelines.
